how do people carry rats around with them?
Every now and then I hear of how versatile and nomadic some rodents can be, particularly rats. But I have to wonder, what happens when they urinate or poop? Most people that do this have the animal in their sleeve or shoulder, but doesn't this mean their clothed must smell awful?
I wouldn't dream of carrying any rodent around with my, seems like too much of a hassle, but how do other people do it comfortably?
My pet rats are all litter box trained, and they do not poop or urinate on me unless it is completly by accident. I do not stink. I handel them in the evenings, shower every morning, and always have clean clothes. If a person has good hygeine, pet rodents won't make them stink >.>
My male rats, will however, "mark" me. This is a single drop here or there, and not a huge puddle of anything. This "urine" doesn't have a strong odor, so no, does not make you stink immediately. And as I said, if you take a daily shower and put clean clothes on each day, there isn't an issue. I'm also so obsessive about keeping their cages clean, I hardly notice a smell there either.
They LOVE to ride around on my shoulders, especially the older males. The smaller guys get a little antsy on my shoulders, but do okay. I also carry them in the front pockets of my hoodies, or turn my hoodie around to carry them in front of me, but in the hood part... This is especially good when I've brought new babies home that needed to bond with me :3
